ORLANDO TRAVEL GUIDE: PRACTICAL INFORMATION-SUNSAVE HOLIDAYS

SENIOR CITIZENS

Florida has always attracted senior citizens for recreation or permanent settlement. Hotels, car rental agencies, airlines, and many shopping venues offer seniors special discount rates, and it never hurts to ask for a discount anyway. The giant discount malls on International Drive make a point of slashing their already low prices for senior shoppers. Members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are offered many area discounts, including sports and cultural events, and the National Council of Senior Citizens, also known as Senior Service America, can provide hotel and car rental discounts. Amtrak, Greyhound, and the LYNX bus system have special rates for travelers aged 50 and over. The average theme park guest walks between 5 and 7 miles (8–11 km) a day, so it is important to know that standard and motorized wheelchair rentals are available from Visitor Services just inside the gates of all the theme parks. TRAVELERS WITH DISABILITIES
Always be sure to make hotel management aware of any potentially serious health problems. Walt Disney World in particular has its own medical staff and facilities to deal with any emergency. Always carry a list of medications. All of the resorts and the restaurants at the theme parks have rooms that are wheelchair accessible. more: http://wikitravel.org/en/Orlando

Concierge services at major hotels can assist in getting handicapped parking placards for cars. At Universal, wheelchairs are available for rental at $7 per day and Electric Convenience
Vehicles are available for rental at $35 per day. It is recommended that you call up at least 24 hours in advance to make a reservation. Universal Orlando puts great store in the “queue experience” as an important part of riding an attraction, and guests in wheelchairs are asked to join the line and wait in queue along with everyone else.

Disney has a limited number of wheelchairs available at the Guest Services Desk, at the entrances to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Disney-MGM Studios. Magic Kingdom and Epcot also have motorized wheelchairs. Disney offers a “Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities,” and you can get hold of a copy by calling the main information number. Sign language interpreting services are also available at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. There is no extra charge for anyone wanting this service. also try this lowcost holidays
